CX Day 2026: CXPA leaders highlight increased focus on accountability

You know CX Day has become a truly global celebration when you see people from A to Z represented in the chat during the Customer Experience Professional Association’s LinkedIn Live.

As CXPA GEO Greg Melia pointed out during the virtual event on Tuesday, organizations such as the American Medical Association were hosting a CX Day ‘watch party,’ alongside the association’s members in regions such as Zimbabwe.

That not only reflects growth in the CXPA, Melia said, but a steadily increased awareness of how important CX has become since the first CX Day 14 years ago.

“What has stayed the same is that this is an opportunity to take a day to reflect and celebrate and raise awareness of the amazing people and committed companies and impressive partners who are collaborating to create better experiences for customers,” Melia said. “What has changed is that we’ve become much more prepared to bring the evidence on how we collaborate, on how we deliver those elements.”

The theme of this year’s CX Day is that “Good CX delivers better outcomes for customers, employees and organizations.” To Melia, the best visual representation of that theme is a triangle with each of those three groups sitting at one of its points.

“Our goal is not to get everybody to one point of the triangle,” he said. “Our goal to get a solution in the centre of that triangle so that it is sustainable and valuable.”

Jayalakshmi Sudarshan, CXPA’s 2026 board chair, echoed similar sentiments, suggesting there has been a shift from simply raising the profile of CX as a profession to building greater accountability among those who practice it.

“If you have an example of how CX is having an impact, document it,” she advised, pointing to CXPA’s case studies, AI guidance and research as critical tools to build upon those examples.

Melia said the “good” CX mentioned in the 2026 CX Day theme could be thought of as an operating system or business discipline that gets infused throughout the organization rather than a particular job or role.

“We are no longer a department or a team trying to fly around the organization fixing things,” he said. “We are catalysts that try to bring CX thinking and mindset to every department, every conversation, every decision.”

The CXPA used CX Day to formally announced 23 organizations that have been recognized through its Proven Business Impact program. This is where organizations submit details of their work, which get reviewed by an international panel of evaluators. There have been nearly 50 firms recognized since the program was launched.

This year’s winners included CIBC and software engineering firm Salamanca Solutions International, who looked visibly shocked when they were informed of the honor in pre-recorded videos.

“This is exactly what every org is looking for. They want to know their team is delivering results to help them grow across the organization,” Melia said. “We see that CX Is being used to retain and grow loyalty, improve efficiency. It’s being used to open up new markets and services.”

CXPA this fall will also be releasing a directional framework for responsible AI implementation in CX, based on input from more than a dozen members. The association’s CX Day LinkedIn Live is available for viewing on demand.
